The third day we went to Epcot and visited a couple of hotels.

The next day we went for a walk in the (beautiful!) hotel area and then took a boat to Downtown Disney. From there we went to the Wilderness Lodge hotel and then spent the rest of the day at the Magic Kingdom.

Earlier in December me and Henrik went to Disney World. We left again just one day later to spend Christmas with my family so I never had any time to post any photos, but here are photos from the arrival and our first day which was spent at Disney’s Animal kingdom.

Apnea
I recently had the good fortune of working with Apnea ( link NSFW ) to add to my collection of reference material. It's been a long time coming as we've been trying to work together for the past five years.

I've also posted a wallpaper for your consumption.

My tuition cost at DeVry includes "online" versions of the textbooks.
Which, you know, is okay in that I don't have to wait for dead-tree delivery.
On the other hand, it's through MyScribe, which is the DRM's DRM of DRM. I don't get a text I can use. I get a text that MyScribe lets me look at, as long as MyScribe's servers are up, they have correct records of which books I'm allowed to read (having, you know, paid for them), I have access to a computer (since "downloaded" books require a MyScribe reader), and planetary alignment doesn't cause any other problems.
So, I'm pretty much stuck with paying for permission to use, temporarily and at a third party's whim, texts which I've paid for. The publisher, school, and company are all calling me a crook that would destroy their livelihood if they didn't lock down their super-precious accounting textbook that everyone in the world wants to read.
I just wrote a short 10-page research paper on why Christian academics have a moral and practical motivation to share their works freely, so I'm a little biased, but this sort of horseshit is exactly what people are talking about when they refer to button-making guilds and whip-and-buggy makers. In 30 years people will wonder at the stupidity of these kinds of things, but for the time being I'm forced to suffer through it.
I'll be writing a letter, I think, to express my calm displeasure with the situation.
For the uninformed, here's a few pieces from the CafeScribe FAQ:
Does that sound to you like I "own" anything?

Can I sell my book to another student when I am done using it?
No. We do not support student-to-student sales.
Can I copy and paste my eTextbook content to other programs?
Yes; however, publishers have the option of restricting the amount of content you can export. In general the limit is 30% of the entire book content. We enforce the limit by counting the number of characters that you include in each copy operation.
Can I print the textbook?
MyScribe supports printing of book content. The print limit for most books is 30%.

So rather than do a crazy party with friends at home, or insane party with strangers in another country... I spent a somewhat quiet evening with family in Mexico. Sure we drank and I'm still totally buzzed, but compared to last year, this was the tamest New Years Eve since I was a teenager. Heh. That's actually a long time when I say it now.
Earlier, minutes after the new year dawned on us all, I tried to think of some meaning or goal or foresight to 2010, but came up totally blank. I remember at the end of 2008 I was filled full of premonition, full of absolute certainty as to what the year had in store for me.. what's scary is a lot of it was absolutely spot on. What does this nothingness when I project into 2010 mean? A mystery? I like it. That's what I want to think, it's what I tell myself to think. 2010 will be bringing on a quarter century of me breathing and thinking and moving.. am I going to continue making every moment count? Have I been? Sometimes, absolutely. Other times, absolutely not. What a fucked up jumble of drunken thoughts this is turning out to be.
I'm still processing what this vacation has been for me. This has been the longest time off I've had since I started working a year and a half ago. Did I spend this time wisely? Was it wasted? Surely I don't spend enough time with my family and it was good to do so.. but what about spending my youth traveling, seeing the world, partying with friends... did I sabotage an excellent opportunity? I now have 0 vacation days and will have to pain stakingly save them up for another opportunity like this. What is the Asia trip going to happen? When is the Euro trip going to happen? Ugh. I wish we got more time off at my company.
At the end of the day, I still have my health and that's something to be thankful for. I hope all my LJ friends, you all, have a year full of joy and good fortune.
